GLENN A. BARBER is an educator, technologist, systems architect and developer of a wide range of software applications. From 1994 to 2001, he was a popular lecturer at UCLA Extension, School of Engineering, on enterprise applications, database design and object-oriented development. He has served as consultant and mentor to a wide range of clients, including Price Waterhouse Coopers, AT&T, Weyerhauser, Hughes, Prudential, Toyota, Hitachi, SAP/Sybase, and MCI-Systems House. He received a special commendation from the Los Angeles Police Department for developing the Law Enforcement Analysis Data Systems (LEADS), a law enforcement and anti-terrorist tracking system. His work encompasses a wide array of technology skills: CASE technologies Power Designer and Erwin; database systems SAP SQL Anywhere, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2/400, and Oracle; rapid application development tools PowerBuilder, Java, and Visual Basic; and operating systems OSX, Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX, AS/400, and VAX VMS.
From 1980 through 1992, Mr. Barber was the President and CEO of software publisher GABA (Glenn A. Barber and Associates, Inc.), now known as REAL Software Systems, LLC. As the IBM Business Partner and Agent to the Entertainment Industry, GABA developed specialized applications on the IBM AS/400 and IBM RS/600 for licensing and distribution of motion picture and television products. Clients included Buena Vista TV, Turner Entertainment, MGM/UA, MCA-Universal, Orion and CBS-Fox Video. GABA designed and developed Entertainment Rights Licensing (ERL), a leading Studio rights-tracking and accounting system used in the entertainment industry.
Before founding GABA, Mr. Barber was Vice-President of Software Development at Mini-Computer Business Applications (MCBA), where he managed and participated in the creation of a popular suite of distribution, accounting and manufacturing applications. These applications were the first business applications to be developed for the IBM PC and were introduced by IBM in the PC’s initial product launch.
Mr. Barber has served as the elected President of the International Oracle Users Group and co-founded the Los Angeles Power Builder User Group.
